Throughout the different playtime seasons, there are many different toddler activities that happen and with so many of the outdoor activities, safety is an issue. Making sure that you know what activities your children are going to participate in will help you know if you need to have a helmet and other protective gear. Their safety should be your first thoughts.
One of the top activities that would require a helmet is riding a bicycle. Whether your child has training wheels or is riding freely, it is always good to instill in them the beginnings of good safety by always making it a priority to wear a helmet. If taught early, this training will help save their lives many times over. Helmet safety will teach your children to be responsible for the health and safety as well.
Another activity that needs safety protection is rollerskating. All of the proper protection should be worn, including a helmet so that if a fall occurs all of the vital body parts should be protected.
Making sure that you have the correct type of helmet is an important part of helmet safety. When fitting your child for a helmet, make sure that the straps fit properly and that the helmet is sitting comfortably around your childs head. An great way to help your child to remember to wear their helmet is to put something special on it that will make it their own, such as special stickers, or a decal with their name on it. This will make it fun for them to wear it and it is a win win situation for everyone involved. You are protecting your child and they think that it is fun.
Your childs safety is a primary focus when creating helmets. However, many parents wish to do research on their own which is a great thing to do. Making a list of things you want in a helmet will help you mak a good education. Taking care of your children when they could be in a possibly dangerous situation will help make your time outdoors a lot more enjoyable.

Who doesn’t remember playing with hand-me-down toys at Grandma and Grandpa’s house that were also played with by children one or two generations previously? It seems like nearly every grandparent’s home has some sort of special toy that has been handed down through the generations. Often, these toys are the most beloved of a toddler’s entire toy collection. Most of these toys seem to have one defining and charming characteristic: they’re made of wood. Certainly, wooden toys have a longevity that today’s technologically advanced, hard plastic toys simply do not. They occupy a special place in the toy boxes of toddlers everywhere.
Not all wooden toys need to be generations old or stored only for play at a grandparent’s home. Rather, the market for modern wood toys is actually quite robust, as many parents are seeing past the loud, singing, buzzing, beeping and talking battery-powered toys of today. Toddlers have a certain affinity for these simple, painted toys. Some of the most popular are toys that can be pushed, pulled, or ridden. Trucks and trains never cease to amuse little boys, and nearly everyone can enjoy a ride in a nice wooden wagon. A wooden toddler bike or wooden rocking horse will make for endless hours of fun for a little tyke, as well.
On top of the active toys, many indoor and educational toys are quite popular when made of wood. Blocks are, of course, a favorite of toddlers. Stacking, building and knocking down those wooden toys is a timeless game for which kids possess innate ability, it seems. Puzzles and games also appeal to inquisitive little minds who want to figure everything out. Such options, made of wood, are bound to be long lasting and extremely fun for the toddler to have around.
Not only are they fun, but wooden toys possess several intrinsic benefits that today’s advanced toys simply can’t touch. Some may see the lack of battery power as a negative sign, but most parents will prefer the clicking and clacking of wood to any sounds that battery powered toys might make. The wooden variety of many toys come in a soft, smooth finish, and aren’t as apt to break or have pieces chip off, thus making them safer than their plastic counterparts. The lack of battery power enhances kids’ creativity and forces them to come up with their own sound effects. All in all, wooden kids toys are a great option for any family. Timeless and long lasting, they are sure to help create special memories over many years.

In today’s fast-paced, technologically advanced society, an unintended consequence of increasingly convenient lives is the obesity epidemic that’s sprung up with alarming speed. The problem isn’t limited to adults who make poor choices about their diets and exercise programs. Unfortunately, child obesity is just as serious, and is increasingly prevalent. Experts estimate that nearly ten percent of children worldwide are considered to be obese, and the percentage is higher in developed nations, which have greater concentrations of obesity that developing countries do.
There are several factors which have led to this obesity epidemic, and perhaps the biggest is the sedentary lifestyle that is embraced by so many parents, and in turn, taught to their children. Television use is a major risk factor in child obesity, with children that watch telelvision for four or more hours per day are over twenty percent more likely to be overweight. Computers add another five percent to the risk for one or more hour of use per day. Gone are the days when children would run outside with the neighbors until Mom called them in for supper. Today’s kids have fun in front of the television, computer, or Nintendo system.
Sadly, child obesity is a major indicator and major risk factor in itself for adult obesity. Many obese children grow up to be obese adults, and suffer from a whole realm of diseases which are entirely preventable through weight control. One of the best ways to prevent childhood obesity is to limit a child’s sedentary time each day and get the children outside and moving! Experts recommend no less than one hour of physical activity each day. Active children are more likely to be active adults, and the benefits of physical activity far outlast any child’s whining or complaining over being kicked off the couch.
Once the kids are outside, many parents wonder just what to do with them. There are so many wonderful options for outdoor activities that go a long way towards preventing child obesity. Many of these options are also family activities that will build memories and strengthen family ties. Fun ideas include destinations such as adventure parks, water parks, and good old neighborhood parks, complete with swings, slides, and all other manner of toys. Children love learning to bike, and family bike rides are another great idea for fun times. Children always love burning energy on a hot day by swimming. Some enjoy outdoor sports such as basketball, and some will even enjoy planting flowers and other kinds of gardening. All of these activities will also help Mom and Dad stay fit, and will go a long way toward keeping kids healthy even in this day and age.

One of the most beloved activities for children and parents alike is playing outside. The outdoor environment opens up worlds for children that just aren’t available inside, and what parent doesn’t appreciate giving their toddler the opportunity to burn off all that extra energy by running around and otherwise having fun outside? That being said, moving the play from inside to outside isn’t always an easy transition, as it can be totally different, and surely requires an entirely new set of toys. Parents can make the spring and summer into absolutely enchanting seasons by providing the right outdoor toys for their toddlers.
In finding outdoor toys for toddlers, there are a few basic ideas to keep in mind. First, safety should be a paramount concern. Parents should always keep their child’s individual skill level in mind when choosing toys, as some may require too much climbing or entice too much exploring for a child who’s not ready for these things yet. Once the safety concerns are addressed and parents have a basic idea of things that may need to be avoided, or simply delayed, it’s time to have fun and make the best backyard a kid could imagine.
One surefire way to provide fun outdoor toys is to think about the child’s current interests. Does he love to climb? A slide might make the perfect toddler play gym. If the child is more content to take in the world from a distance, a swing will undoubtedly provide hours of contentment. For kids that like to build, sandboxes are great ways to practice all sorts of skills. Exploratory types will certainly appreciate having ride-on toys, or perhaps push bikes or wagons from which to explore all their outdoor surroundings.
Another great idea in providing excellent outdoor toy options is to help the toddler learn. Toddlers learn by playing, after all, and this age is a great time to sow seeds of helpfulness and responsibility. By providing a toy mower, parents encourage the child to learn about mowing grass. Most toddlers would also love to learn about planting, weeding, and watering flowers. On top of education, toddlers also simply love to expend energy! A playhouse, ball pit, or swing set can provide hours of climbing fun, and will certainly guarantee a good sleep by a tired child once the day’s play has ended.

When it comes to kids safety, you can’t be too cautious. Especially when it comes to child sports and the safety equipment that could be needed for the respective sport. The sport that most toddlers partake in that requires the simplest of safety equipment is bike riding which requires a toddler bike helmet for the ultimate head protection.
Parents can research and find that there are two major brands of toddler bike helmets on the market that are worthy of any child’s use. The first and most recommended brand of toddler bike helmets are those made by Bell Boomerang. This brand is manufactured from an EPS stretchable foam liner product that cushions the head upon impact during a fall inside the molded plastic outer shell. These components are key to it’s success in quality and performance standards. This product also comes equipped with another technology that Bell Boomerang calls the PinchGuard. The PinchGuard keeps the straps from pinching the child’s neck as it is securely buckled under the child’s chin. This particular brand retails for approximately $30.00 and can be purchased online.
The second brand that other parents prefer to purchase for their child’s bike riding safety are the helmets manufactured by Giro Me2. This company, like Bell Boomerang, has passed the many safety tests that these products require. The Giro Me2 company also have a great adjustable fit system that is more simpilar to adjust without changing parts. This is favorable among parents. The helmets offered by Giro Me2 retail for $25.00 and can also be purchased with online retailers. Giro Me2 also will offer any customer a credit towards a new helmet purchase if the their existing Giro Me2 helmet is damaged during an accident.
Both brands come in an array of colors and patterns and some even favor patterns of popular child cartoons and television programs. These and other brands of toddler bike helmets are most important piece of equipment for our children’s safety while taking that daily bike stroll around the block. These helmets can be the difference between life and death in a regular bike accident.
